I have always had pets – dogs, cats, guinea pigs, fish – you name it, we had it. Over the years I’ve found certain ‘necessities’ that make for happy pets (and happy humans). Whether you have cats, dogs, horses, or some other type of pet, they deserve the best life we can give them. Below are some of my favorite pet necessities.
Chewy is the most important tool in owning pets. Their Autoship function allows you to set up recurring shipments of things you use every day like pet food, cat litter, and other related items. You can change and adjust what you buy every month whenever you want and you can get a discount for buying things through Autoship!
If you have large dogs, a raised water or food bowl is important for your dog’s overall health. It allows them to eat and drink at a comfortable level and it pretties up their food and water bowls. I also find having the bowls up off the floor helps to minimize kicking or tripping over them and thus avoiding having to clean up a big mess!
If your dog(s) like to take car rides or to go to the dog park, then you need to protect your car. This car seat cover covers the entirety of your back seat with a hammock that attaches to the front seat headrests. This ensures that all dog hair and dirt is contained on the washable and waterproof car seat cover. A must for those car-loving pooches!
Summers are hot and our dogs have to walk around all day in fur coats. Why not get them a splash pool to cool off whenever they want? My dog absolutely loves this pool and loves to race around the backyard and then through it. She also tries to drink and attack the water as it splashes around. This is a must have for hot summers and keeping our pups cool!
Similar to the whole seat cover above, this half seat cover allows you to have a contained and protected space for your dog while allowing a passenger to ride in comfort. This cover also has a hammock that hooks on to the front seat headrest providing a small ‘apartment’ for your dog to enjoy car rides with a view.
We have purchased a lot of these orange balls over the years. Our previous dog loved them and so we continued the tradition with our current dog. The balls are larger and also have a space for treats inside (if you want to keep your dogs occupied for a bit). This soft, somewhat squishy ball is also great for a game of fetch!
Kongs are a dog’s best friend. We have many Kongs of all different sizes and colors lying around. They are great for stuffing with peanut butter or squeezy cheese or other such treats. They keep your dogs busy for awhile trying to get all the tasty goodness out from every nook and cranny. They are durable and last forever!
Our cats are scratchers and in order to save my furniture, I make sure they have plenty of scratching posts and boxes available to them. This scratch box comes with a little toy and catnip to sprinkle on the scratcher. My cats go nuts for this so I started buying them in multi-packs! The price is right and they last awhile. Don’t forget to flip the scratcher over to get maximum usage out of it!
This is another favorite scratcher in our house. The cats love to scratch and lounge on it sort of like their own little couch. This scratcher is heavy duty and lasts a long time. One one side of the scratching blocks are worn out, just flip them over. When both sides wear out, you can buy replacement pieces online for less than the cost of a new scratcher. This scratcher also comes with plenty of catnip to interest your cats!
The cats and dog do not share water dishes in our house. This fountain is strictly cats only! The cats love drinking out of this, it mimics the faucet (which they also love drinking out of). You can tell by sound when the water levels start to get low so you can do a quick refill. The moment I start refilling the fountain the cats come running, they know fresh water is on the horizon!
