Holiday Fuel Mug + 18 Gorgeous Etsy Holiday Mugs!

Nothing says the holidays like a mug with something warm to drink! This holiday fuel mug is a fun and festive way to kick off the holiday season. Picture yourself drinking hot cocoa while curled up by the fire watching holiday movies with the family. Or think of it as your refueling stop amidst the craziness of the holiday season. This holiday fuel mug will help make your holidays a bit more cheerful and fun!

Holiday Fuel Mug

This holiday fuel mug is quick and easy to make using a Cricut machine  (I have the Cricut Maker and I LOVE it). The lettering is too detailed to cut by hand, or at least too detailed for ME to cut by hand but you’re welcome to try!

If you don’t know what a Cricut machine is, simply put it is an automated device that cuts out designs or patterns that you create on the Cricut Design Space app (which is very similar to Adobe Illustrator). You can use all sorts of materials – from paper to leather to wood to material to many others – to make whatever you can dream up. I have to say, it’s really cool and fun!

I created both an SVG file and a PDF file (which are fancy terms for the patterns) for the design of the letters. You can get both templates for free by clicking below:

MUG LETTERING

STEP 1: Uploading the Holiday Fuel Mug SVG File

Download the SVG file and upload it into Cricut Design Space. The file will look like this:

STEP 2: Cutting the Holiday Fuel Mug SVG

Choose your desired color of vinyl adhesive and cut per the Cricut machine prompts. You can use whatever color and type of vinyl you wish.

PLEASE NOTE: If you don’t have a Cricut machine and want to cut the pieces out by hand, you can use the PDF file as a guide. I strongly recommend using a Cricut machine to cut these letters rather than scissors but leave that option to you.

STEP 3: Weeding the Holiday Fuel Mug Letters

After cutting all of the letters, carefully peel away the excess vinyl that is not part of the letters from the liner. Be careful not to pull off the letters. You will have six pieces of vinyl ready to be transferred.

STEP 4: Transferring the Holiday Fuel Mug Letters to Transfer Tape

Cut pieces of transfer tape equal in size to the six pieces of cut vinyl. Apply the transfer tape to each of the six pieces of vinyl to prepare them for transfer to the mug.

STEP 5: Applying the Holiday Fuel Mug Letters to the Mug

Before applying the letters to the container, make sure the mug has a clean dry surface. When mug is ready, determine where you want to put the letters. Starting with the Holiday Fuel letters, attach the transfer tape to the mug, smoothing it out using the XL Scraper or your fingers. The tape should be smoothly applied with no bubbles.

Begin to gently pull away the transfer tape, making sure the letters are sticking to the container. If a letter isn’t sticking, smooth it back down with the XL scraper or fingers a few times to make sure it isn’t coming up with the transfer tape.

Once all the tape is removed, the mug will look like this:

Next, apply the smaller letters at the bottom of the mug. Start with the Thanksgiving letters, then the Black Friday with the dots vinyl. Apply them in this order so the remaining lettering can be applied between and after the dots evenly. The end result will look like this:
