In January 2017 I decided it was time to get myself together and address the areas of my life that were weighing me down, literally and figuratively. I was easily 70 pounds overweight, out of shape, letting anxiety have too much control over me, not managing finances effectively, living with too much clutter, not doing projects that needed to be done around the house, etc. Effectively I needed to get (and keep) my collective ducks in a row.
I embarked on a weight loss journey to lose weight and find the energy to tackle the other areas of my life that were not where I wanted them to be. A funny thing happened, I lost weight through diet and exercise and found an increased level of confidence that I didn’t know I had. That confidence gave me the energy and drive to tackle other areas of my life. I’ve made a lot of positive changes and tackled the problem areas of my life; however, the journey is far from over. I have found that getting my ducks in a row was much easier than keeping them there.
I wanted to find a way to help to keep my ducks marching in the right direction and also share what I’ve learned in the hope that I can help others. In thinking about my journey, the song Six Little Ducks came to mind. It not only talks about taking the lead in life, but also holds an important place in my heart from childhood. My sisters, my cousins, and I used to sing the song and act it out with me always playing the lead role of the ‘one little duck’.
Six little ducks that I once knew
Fat one, skinny one, fair one too
But the one little duck with the feather on her back
She led the others with her quack, quack, quack
With that childhood memory, the Six Little Ducks blog was born. While I ‘played’ the lead duck as a child, today I’m living the life of a lead duck. I created this website and blog to help keep me on track while also sharing everything I’ve learned along the way.
