I absolutely love blankets, the softer and thicker the better. They add warmth and coziness to any home. There is nothing like curling up on the sofa on a cold, snowy winter day with a soft, comfortable blanket wrapped around you. With colder temperatures approaching, I've been on the hunt for some new blankets for my family room.
We recently completed a major addition to our house and our family room and laundry room were ripped apart. The walls and ceilings were torn up with adding a new room above the existing space. I have completed at least one project so far in the laundry room with My Laundry Room Cabinet Makeover and have many more still on my To Do list.
Spicing Up a Neutral Color Palate
I've redecorated the family room with new furniture and carpeting, but it's still a pretty neutral palate. The main pieces of furniture I've chosen have mostly gray undertones. To get an idea of the palate, you can see the furniture I bought for my family room in Shop My Family Room. I've decorated it for fall to help spruce it a up a bit. You can see the end results of that in my DIY Fall Decor post. I still feel like it needs something more. Enter blankets!

The search began for blankets that would add a little spice to my family room. I did a lot of searching online and found no shortage of options. I didn't want to spend a fortune on blankets but didn't want anything cheap looking or feeling either.
When I shop for blankets I look for ones that have a certain thickness and weight. I tend to stay away from straight fleece blankets because they are always very thin. I tend to lean towards more hefty cable knit blankets. They make you feel like you're enveloped in a hug due to their weight.
The Short List and My Final Choice
The following are the 27 blankets I found that made my “short” list.
Looking through the list, there are aspects I like about all of them. The deciding factors for me were the weight of the blankets and color. I love red and thought it would add just the right amount of spice to my family room. I ended up buying two of them:
- Rizzy Home Cable Knit Cotton Luxury Sweater Throw Blanket in Red from Hayneedle
- Nader Tweed Knitted Throw Blanket in Chili Pepper from Wayfair
